Intérêts de recherche

Le Dr. Castonguay poursuit un programme de recherche axé principalement sur le développement de nouvelles connaissances et technologies pour l’amélioration de la tolérance de la luzerne et autres plantes herbacées pérennes aux conditions hivernales rigoureuses. Ses travaux de recherche portent sur les bases génétiques et moléculaires de la tolérance au gel chez la luzerne, l’impact de la régie de coupe automnale sur l’accumulation de réserves organiques qui déterminent la vigueur de la repousse printanière ainsi que sur la persistance des plantes pérennes dans un contexte de changements climatiques. Ses travaux ont un impact direct sur le secteur de la production par leur contribution au développement de nouvelles méthodologies de sélection incluant l’utilisation de marqueurs moléculaires pour l=identification de matériel génétique mieux adapté au gel et l’acquisition de nouvelles connaissances en appui à l’élaboration de recommandations de culture.
