Paul Watson est Directeur du Programme Fibre Supply and Quality chez Paprican. Ses intérêts de recherche incluent le développement d'outils rapides d'évaluation de la qualité du bois et de la fibre, la relation entre les indicateurs au niveau du peuplement incluant la qualité de site et la qualité du bois et de la fibre, la relation entre traitement sylvicultural et qualité de la fibre, la modélisation et l'optimisation de la chaîne de création de valeur de fibre à pâtes et papiers, les opportunités de produit à partir d'espèces ligneuses sous-utilisées, et l'amélioration génétique pour maximiser la qualité du bois et de la fibre. Il dirige l'initiative EvaluTree afin d'établir la première installation d'analyse de qualité de bois et fibre en Amérique du Nord.
